Production animal researchers in the School of Veterinary Science work to advance scientific knowledge of animal production, welfare, health and biology. We regularly consult with industry professionals and producers and undertake quality research consistent with the needs of industry.
We promote the humane and responsible care of animals through scientific research and education, and develop ethical principles to guide human-animal interactions and biotechnology.
Our research focus is on understanding genetic mechanisms underlying production, reproduction and disease resistance. Also control and prevention of livestock disease through recombinant DNA techniques.
We can provide expertise in most areas of dairy production, with particular emphasis on judicious use of antibiotics, lameness, pain management and welfare, mastitis, reproduction, the use of micronutrients and infectious disease.
The Deer Research Group conducts high-quality research to advance scientific knowledge of the biology and farming of deer.
We have a broad range of scientific knowledge in the areas of sheep production, welfare, health and biology.
Our research focuses on advancing our knowledge of ruminant nutrition and physiology in order to optimise animal health, growth and production.
