Level of study
Undergraduate and Postgraduate

The Massey University Summer Study Hardship Bursary is intended to assist undergraduate and postgraduate students enrolled in study in the summer semester who are experiencing financial hardship.

Value and tenure
The value of the bursary is determined each year from the interest earned on the capital up to $3,000 per annum as funds permit.

Typical number on offer
Multiple awards are made with the number of bursaries offered each year varies depending on how much funding is available.

Applicants must be:
-New Zealand citizens or permanent residents
-enrolled part time or full time in the Summer School semester at Massey University, or enrolled in a postgraduate research course of 90 credits or more.
-completed a minimum of 120 credits at the end of semester 2 in the year of the application

Selection criteria
Preference will be given to students who can demonstrate financial hardship, and who also have a record of academic success in their studies to date.
Applications must be supported by a supervisor, Head of Department, or other academic mentor who is familiar with the applicant's circumstances and academic performance.

Selection panel
The bursary is awarded by the University Scholarships Committee.

Conditions of the scholarship
In recommending the award of a bursary the University Scholarships Committee will take account of other scholarships and bursaries held by the applicant with a view to achieving a reasonable distribution of monies among qualifying candidates.
At the discretion of the University all, or part, of the annual interest may be reinvested to maintain the value of the capital fund so the bursary may not be granted each and every year.

An award may be held more than once but a separate application must be made on each occasion.

The emolument will be paid in one instalment on evidence of enrolment in semester three, or of an existing, and on-going thesis enrolment.

Closing date
15 October
