Background
The New Zealand Equine Research Foundation (NZERF) is a registered Charitable Trust. The Trust is administered by a Board made up of nominees of New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing, Harness Racing New Zealand, New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders Association, New Zealand Standardbred Breeders Association, NZ Vet Association Equine Branch, NZ Pony Clubs Association, Equestrian Sport NZ and Massey University.

Value and Tenure
The value of each scholarship will be up to $3,000 each.
The scholarship is tenable for one year.

Typical Number on Offer
Typically, two scholarships will be awarded per year.

Eligibility
Applicants must be:
•New Zealand citizens or permanent residents
•studying full time in the Bachelor of Veterinary Science degree at Massey University
•enrolled in their fourth year of the Bachelor of Veterinary Science degree
•planning to work mainly in the equine industry

Selection Criteria
The selection will be based on:
•academic merit
•curriculum vitae
•a short essay (no more than 500 words) on why the applicant wants to work in the equine industry and why they deserve to be awarded this scholarship
•budget details as to how the applicant would utilise the scholarship
Financial need is not a major criterion, however, may be considered in awarding the scholarship.

Selection Panel
The scholarship is awarded by the University Scholarships Committee on the recommendation of the NZ Equine Research Foundation.

Conditions of the Scholarship
The scholarship may be held in conjunction with other scholarships, bursaries or awards, so long as these permit co-tenure.
The Selection Committee may award more than one scholarship or may refrain from making any award if there is not an applicant of sufficient merit
The recipient will be required to prepare a case study of no more than 1,000 words, suitable for a lay audience, and submit this to the NZERF Office no later than 30 November of their fifth year of study
